Day 1 - Kama'ole Beach, the Pool and Humu-Humu's

Day 1 - we're so excited!  We made it to the first stop of our trip...Wailea, Maui.  Started the morning off enjoying the view of the Pacific from our balcony.  Then some breakfast at the hotel before suiting up and heading to the beach.  With the time change we were up very early Hawaii time!

Next we headed for the beach...Kama'ole Beach III.  The sand was so soft, the waves were perfect and the views stunning. We could see Kahoolawe (smallest of the 8 main volcanic islands...it was used in World War II as a training ground and bombing  range for the US) and Lanai from the beach.  As well as Northern Maui!  The girls brought their snorkeling gear to try out - they all body surfed and Doug and I just sat on the beach and watched them laugh, splash and have so much fun.  Truly does not get much better than this.

After the beach we went for lunch at Coconut's Fish café for some fish tacos that were amazing.  Then back to the hotel for some swimming and poolside cocktails for Doug and I (of course!)!

After a fun day - we were hungry!  So we went across the street to the Grand Wailea's Humu Humu.  We learned all about Hawaii's state fish (the humuhumunukunukuapua'a) and practiced saying the fish's name.  It soon became one of our favorite words of the trip.  The food was fantastic and the girls swore that the vanilla ice cream they had was the best they had ever had!  They each got a humu-humu to take with them! Such a fun day-day 1 was a success.  So thankful.
