Big Sis

Tonight we needed a respite from the house, so we scooted over to the mall to let the girls run around the play area and had dinner at California Pizza Kitchen.

The play area was pretty busy, and even though I was right by the girls’ side the entire time, Ava’s “big sis” side came out. She kept her hand on Kate’s back to help her along, held her hand when she couldn’t quite keep up, and patiently and slowly crawled the stairs to the slide to let Kate keep up with her. On top of that, Ava was encouraging Kate in this sweet little voice the whole way. Loved it! At one point, the girls were in a tree tunnel… a little boy squeezed his way through and was trying to trample over Kate until Ava put herself in front of and over Kate and gave the boy a look that said back off! I loved watching her stand up for her sis!

Next it was off to California Pizza Kitchen. When we first sat, Doug was across from Kate and I was across from Ava. But then Ava sadly said…”I want to sit across from Kate”. So Doug and her traded spots. Ava was so excited to eat pepperoni pizza with Kate (and boy did they eat!).

When we left dinner, Ava’s big sis attitude continued…talking to Kate very matter of factly and insisting on holding her hand (when Kate would let her). When we came home, Ava wanted to “read” to Kate. She has been memorizing some of the books I read to her, and actually does a pretty good job reciting (or as she says…reading) the books, and is now into doing so for Kate. At one point Kate babbled something to Ava, and Ava said…”yeah Kate”…like she understood everything Kate had just said!

If you can’t tell…I just loved tonight as nothing warms my heart more than watching my girls get along and love each other. Now…this is not the constant norm in the Fighter household…we are a normal family…and every day we have our share of fighting...but I will say that the two of them seem to be interacting more in a kind, loving, playful way and I just love it! I hope that the two of them will continue to love, support and “stand up” for each other through the rest of their lives, and grow to be best friends. That’s what a sister is for!

Here's are some pics of them making snow flakes...we got 8 inches on Wednesday and Doug got to stay home too for a snow day!
