Twisty Turney Day
Things don't always go as planned on vacation. But sometimes that leads to a super fun day. We woke up super early (like 4AM early) to drive to the summit of Haleakala to watch the sun rise. But when we got to the base of the mountain, there were big flashing signs explaining that we needed pre-purchased tickets to get into the park. Wa-wa-wa. Girls were all sleeping so Doug and I turned the car around and headed back towards the hotel. Sipping on coffee. We pulled into Kihei around 6AM and were the first customers at Cinnamon Roll Fair. Sweet little family run cinnamon role shop - fresh cinnamon roles. We had some sticky and happy girls.
After loading up on carbs, sugar and stopping back at the hotel for a pit stop, we decided to forge our way back up the mountain. And this time we made it! It was super foggy and we didn't quite have the views of the crater we were hoping for, but it was so much fun because we sort of felt like we were on the moon. A fun experience for the girls.
On the way down we stopped in a eucalyptus forest to take it in! One of my favorite memories from Haleakala was biking down from the summit...we passed through a eucalyptus forest and it was all you could smell! As we were driving down with the girls I kept rolling down my window and hanging my head out like a crazy person.
After a very long morning, we stopped back in Kihei for some Mexican food (and drinks!).
Then it was back to the pool for more swimming....and jenga.
That night we ordered the girls pizza and Doug and I walked down the street to Tommy Bahamas for some dinner and drinks. The girls were pooped and had fun hanging out with a movie and pizza in the room. And we had a fun, quick date night! And I had the best pina colada martini.
Doug and I capped the night off on our hotel balcony, with a bottle of Chandon and sounds of the ocean. It was a jam-packed, long...but perfect day (that didn't go quite as planned).
