Colorado

Doug and I shipped the kids off to Grandma & Grandpa's and were able to escape for a long wonderful weekend to Vail, Colorado! We had an absolute blast. Here are some highlights from our trip...

Day 1: Started at 5AM with a trip to the airport. We arrived in Denver around noon, hopped in our rental car and started driving towards the mountains.

First stop: Food of course! We split some sushi rolls (one of them was a Toledo roll - ha!) and had a beer (at lunch)...I love vacation! After a quick pit-stop at Target (we can't get away from that place) we started on our 2 hour trek towards Vail. It was our first time driving through the Rocky Mountains. Can I just say...it was stunning...and fun. The mountains are majestic to say the least...and us Midwesterners aren't used to those kinds of hills so the twists and turns, ups and downs made the drive a fun adventure for us. There are so many places on this earth that make me stop and say Wow! Thanks God! And this was definitely one of them. Beautiful.

That night we ventured out to Vail Village for dinner at the Red Lion (a laid back bar/restaurant - recommended by our friend Mike), and strolled around the cozy atmosphere of the village...taking in the sites.
Day Two: Skiing! With the time change we were up a few hours before the slopes opened and enjoyed coffee in peace and quiet. Now don't get me wrong...Doug and I both missed the girls...but it was so nice to drink a cup of coffee in peace and quiet...just the two of us! We then checked out and headed towards the ski resort at Beavercreek. After checking into our new hotel and grabbing our lift tickets, we were off to the slopes. The skiing was excellent! So many different trails to take...so much fun! We capped off the day on the mountain with a dip in a hot tub and a night out at another laid back bar/restaurant in the ski village. Perfect! Day 3: More kid free coffee! More amazing skiing. Sushi for lunch! Then we packed up and headed towards Denver so we could rest up and enjoy one more night out before our early morning flight back East to see our 3 favorite girls.

We had such a fabulous time! I just love my husband to pieces. We have been together for almost 9 years...and I can honestly say...it just keeps getting better. There is no one I'd rather spend my time with than him! I know that along the way we will have bumps on the road...but thank God for good times like these where we get to focus on and enjoy the beautiful people, places and adventures God blesses us with. I'm already thinking about the next trip:-)

P.S. Thanks to Grandma & Grandpa Conover for taking on ALL 3 girls. They did great (both the grandparents and the girls), and we are so thankful for their willingness to take them on! I think it may have been an adventure for them as well, but know they are old pros (and say they love every minute of it). I know the girls do too!
